Dónal McGrath was living at Mountain Castle in 1537. He was buried in Lismore in 1548 and his magnificently carved memorial is still in the cathedral in Lismore. In the late 19th and 20th century most of the defensive features of the castle were hidden as it became more of a home - but suddenly in the house will will come across a late medieval carved stone, or a 7 foot thick wall, to remind you of its military history. |
